I’m a founding member of #FairWageOnstage, the grassroots movement that demanded an end to decades of stagnation, and gave Equity critical leverage last fall in securing wage increases of up to 83% Off-Broadway. Now our #FairWageOnCouncil slate is running to ensure FAIR WAGES, INCLUSION, PARTICIPATION, and ENGAGEMENT for actors and stage managers nationwide.
Hi. I’m Carson. #FairWageOnstage started in my living room. Equity members in crisis convened to discuss how to help our community in economic despair. We concluded that night that WE were that help. We grew in numbers and became #FairWageOnstage. We mobilized our membership and demanded that the Off Broadway negotiating team (which I served on) stand resolute for increases up to 83%. It was hard. But we did it and we won.
While I will use my candidate statement to elaborate on our platform, all #FairWageOnCouncil members share the following priorities:
WAGES must reflect our contribution. We’ll fight for more jobs and higher salaries. What we cost must be determined by an employer’s actual ability to pay. A labor of love is still labor.
INCLUSION of underrepresented and diverse perspectives enriches the union and our industry. Fair wages ensure more voices can be heard. When art pays the rent, more people can make art.
PARTICIPATION in the future life and profits of new works should be guaranteed us. Our contribution to the development process is essential, and must be compensated accordingly.
ENGAGEMENT by members empowers our union, and is driven by clear communication from leadership. We will help you engage with AEA because a union is only as strong as its members.
